Rice Military Neighborhood Information
The West Houston neighborhood of Rice Military is located inside the 610 Loop next to Memorial Park. Rice Military neighborhood boundaries include Washington Avenue on the north, Memorial Drive to the south, Shepherd Drive on the east, and Westcott Street to the west. Named for the "Rice" family, the original land owners; the Rice family included William Marsh Rice, who founded the Rice Institute which is the present day Rice University.

Many newcomers to the Houston area ask why the term "military" is used when referring to the Rice Military neighborhood. At one time the neighborhood bordered what was once Camp Logan, a World War I-era U.S. Army training camp.

- Hogg Middle School
- Lamar High School (in the Upper Kirby district)
- St. Theresa School, a Roman Catholic K-8 School that is a part of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston
